March 23, 2020

The safety and well-being of our students, teachers and staff is our first priority. We are deeply grateful to all who collaborated to create a District Contingency Plan for COVID-19 for the Flint Community Schools. #TeamFlint consisted of administrators, teachers, staff, union leadership, the Board of Education, and external partners including CSM Services, First Student, SodexoMagic, Vartek and the CRIM Fitness Foundation. Their contribution to the health and well-being of our students in this particular challenge is nothing short of amazing.

FCS Supplemental Learning Plan

To ensure the continuation of student learning, standards-based learning packets will be provided to students from kindergarten through grade 10, with supplemental online resources also available. Electronic copies of learning packets will be made available online this week. Our goal for students in grades 11 and 12 is to ensure students remain on track for graduation. As such, 11th and 12th grade students will be provided Google Chromebooks and access to standards-based, credit bearing courses through Edgenuity. Students with special needs will receive learning packets that include the grade level targets and specific learning targets that are in alignment with a student’s individual IEPs. Parents are encouraged to contact their child's school with any questions regarding learning packets and check the district website for ongoing updates.

FCS Nutritional Service Plan

To ensure the nutritional resources our students rely on are available, the District will execute the USDA “Summer Feeding” program model during the time the students are out of school, using seven access sites (as of 3/23/20) across the city of Flint to provide students with breakfast and lunch meals once per day—from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ONLY. Families who are unable to make it to the Food Distribution Sites can contact their school or the Office of Student Services (810-767-6111) to see if alternative arrangements can be made. FCS Schedule and Staff Responsibilities

On Monday, March 23, the District will begin shifting to a "work from home" platform. The District will execute the plans to do so on Monday, March 23, 2020 and Tuesday, March 24, 2020.

Work Hours on those two days will be from 9 am -2 pm at both Central Office and All School buildings. Following that time, all district buildings will be closed to the public for business until further notice. The work of the District will continue remotely through electronic correspondences and telephone calls. Parents may contact the district and leave telephone messages at the school’s main office number, and a person will return the parents call within 24-48 hours.

FCS Safety and Security Updates

The District will continue to take its cues and directions from the Genesee County Department of Health and the State of Michigan Department of Health—as such, large gatherings, athletic events and field trips are postponed until further notice. Staff and students are highly encouraged to follow the preventative measures outlined by the CDC, available at this link: Pertinent updates will be provided on the district website ( and through social media.
